In 2004, Lan Kwai Fong Entertainments entered the Thai market with the opening of SILK Restaurant at The Plaza Surin shopping complex in Phuket. In 2009, SILK moved over to the newly opened Andara Resort as the main dining attraction of the resort. Using the finest ingredients, Chef Ooy delivers beautifully created classic Thai cuisine in a beautiful setting over the AndamanSea.
The Man behind the Scene!
Dr. Allan Zeman, GBS, JP is often referred to as the “King of Lan Kwai Fong”. He saw the area’s potential and opened his first restaurant, California in 1983 to cater for business colleagues, expatriates and trendy and local revelers. The businessman turned entrepreneur soon started to build his Lan Kwai Fong Empire by developing this unique area into the central entertainment district, buying buildings in the area and filling them with restaurants and bars as well as offices and serviced apartments.
The expansion of Lan Kwai Fong Entertainments and Lan Kwai Fong Properties Groups led to Phuket with the opening of The Plaza Surin and SILK in 2004. The company’s portfolio now totals 9 restaurants and bars in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong and Phuket, Thailand.
The newest addition to the portfolio is Lan Kwai Fong Chengdu, the flagship project of the Lan Kwai Fong Group in mainland China. Located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, which is also known as “the Land of Abundance”, Lan Kwai Fong Chengdu is a purpose-built, retail and F&B complex targeted at the trendy and dynamic locals and visitors. It is expected to open 2010. The group plans its growth and further expansion through various development projects and concepts throughout China, Thailand and South East Asia. Stay tuned!
